Exercise Class Information

The Department of Community Services offers a variety of exercise classes for both adults & seniors throughout the year. Some of the types of exercise class we offer include Aqua Aerobics, Fit for Life, Line Dancing, Pilates, Tai Chi, Yoga and Zumba. All of our exercise classes take place in the Community Center Dance Room except for Aqua Aerobics which takes place at the Hampton High School Indoor Pool and the Outdoor Community Pool (summer months only). Different exercise classes are offered at varying times throughout the year. Please refer to the most recent publication of the Hampton Highlights for the current exercise class schedules.

Interested inYoga Image registering for a class? Interested participants can visit our registration section of our website to register for classes. Please keep in mind that online payments accepted are credit card only and a 2.95% convenience fee will apply to each online transaction. You can also register in person for classes at the Hampton Community Center Service desk during regular hours of operation. The Service Desk accepts cash, check, and credit card transactions. A 2.95% convenience fee will apply to all credit card transactions processed at the Service Desk.

Interested in trying a class but not registering for the entire session? Exercise class walk-in’s are available for any exercise class that is not at the maximum class enrollment. The daily walk-in fee is $8.00 per class.  Payment is made the day of the class at the Community Center Service Desk.

Please Note: If a class is at the maximum capacity we are unable to accept walk-in’s even if all participants are not present that day for class.

Types of Exercise Classes 

Aqua Aerobics

Enjoy the benefit of aerobic exercise of a low impact format which takes advantage of the cushioning and resistance of the water. Great for those with arthritic conditions and expectant mothers. For the novice participant. The class is held in 5 ft. of water or less. All you need is a swimsuit. Written permission from your doctor is required if you are pregnant or have a medical condition. For participants 18 & Up. 

Fit for Life

Low impact aerobic workout to energize, increase flexibility, balance, coordination, and core strength. Bring your own mat, water bottle, elastic bands & light hand weights. Wear gym shoes for athletic support. For participants 60 & Up. 

Body Sculpt 

This new and exciting offering is a muscle-toning class focused on the all major muscle groups. Perform traditional weight-training moves in a class setting. Bring a mat and light weights. For participants 18 & Up. 

Line Dancing (Beginner)

Learn a new type of exercise and enjoy the benefits of doing it with other! Line dancing focuses on a repeated sequence of steps in which a group of people dance in one or more lines or rows. Geared for participants 60 & Up, but ages 18 & Up welcomed. 

Pilates 

Pilates uses a series of breathing and core exercises to strengthen abs, arms, legs, and back without bulking muscles. Improves flexibility and agility to help prevent injury. Bring an exercise mat and small weights. For participants 18 & Up. 

Tai-Chi

Beginner Tai-Chi

This gentle stretch exercise class aims to help increase flexibility, balance, muscular strength, and fitness. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and flat shoes. Geared for participants 60 & Up, but ages 18 & Up welcomed. 

Continuing Tai-Chi

Intended for those who have taken Beginner Tai Chi. This gentle stretch exercise class aims to help increase flexibility, balance, muscular strength, and fitness. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and flat shoes. Geared for participants 60 & Up, but ages 18 & Up welcomed. 

Yoga (Easy)

Improve posture, strength and flexibility by doing Sun Salutations and various other yoga stances and moves plus learn breathing exercises to help relieve stress, calm the mind, and unify the body & mind. Bring sticky yoga mat. For ages 18 & Up. 

Zumba 

Zumba

Zumba is a fusion of Latin and International music with routines that feature aerobic / fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Wear footwear that allows pivoting. For ages 18 & Up. 

Zumba Gold

A low impact, beginner level exercise class designed for active older adults who are looking for Zumba moves & music at a low intensity. Bring a mat for floor stretching. For ages 60 & Up.
