Lost & Running Loose Pets

If you have lost a pet or have found one running loose, there are several steps that should be taken for the safety of the animal as well as the public. An animal running freely is in danger. It could be hit by a car, eat discarded and potentially dangerous foods or trash or be cut by glass or nails. Loose pets can also scatter garbage and cause damage to private property.

Reporting a Lost or Found Animal

To report a lost or found animal, contact the Township of Hampton Police Department. When reporting, provide a description of the animal along with any identification it is wearing. The animal will be placed on a missing animal watch list with your name and phone number. You will be contacted should the police find your animal or someone reports the animal as being found.

Pet Owner Liability

Pet owners are liable for their pet's actions. You can prevent your pet from causing injury or damage only if they are confined to your property and controlled as required by law. Failure to do so is a violation of the Township of Hampton Ordinance and Pennsylvania Dog Law and could result in fines or impounding of the animal.

Finding a Lost Animal

If you find a lost animal, please report it immediately to the Police Department. Also, stray animals are turned over to Animal Control Services who are contracted by the Township of Hampton for animal control.
