2009 Independence Day Celebration
In November, 2008, it became evident to Township Council that the economic downturn affecting the country as a whole was also having an affect on the Township's 2009 Budget. After much tribulation, Council adopted a budget for 2009 that focused on the Township's core services, such as public safety, road maintenance, and sanitary sewer operations. This then meant that some things had to go, and even though the Township cut five full-time employee positions, it became necessary to further cut one of the two days in which the Township celebrates the July 4th Independence holiday.
As such, since most residents who attend the Township's Independence Day celebration do so on July 3rd rather than July 4th, it was decided to discontinue the July 4th fireworks display and activities. This then would enable residents to enjoy Hampton's festivities on July 3rd, which will include such activities as hayrides, a concert in the park, community booths, and a fireworks display, while still being able to take in an additional fireworks show somewhere else on the evening of July 4th.
The Township will revisit this decision as part of the 2010 Budget process; however, for this year we thank you for your understanding and support.
All activities and fireworks will take place in Hampton Community Park in and around the Hampton Community Center.

** If you would like to enjoy a local activity with regard to July 4th, Allegheny County Parks & Recreation, with the support of the Township, will be hosting a “Musical Fireworks Show” with the Pittsburgh Symphony at Hartwood Acres beginning at 8:00 p.m. This concert and event is free to the public.
